Where Confidence Really Comes From
Where Confidence Really Comes From
Understanding the foundations of athletic confidence
Confidence Isn't a Feeling, It's a Skill
Most people think confidence is something you either have or you don't. That's wrong. Confidence is built through specific actions, and once you know the sources, you can fill your tank on purpose.
Real confidence doesn't depend on winning. It comes from knowing you prepared well and can handle whatever happens.
The 4 Sources of Confidence
- Preparation: The most reliable source. When you've put in the work, you know it.
- Past success: Remembering times you performed well reminds your brain you can do it again.
- Physical readiness: Being fit, rested, and warmed up signals your body "I'm ready."
- Support: Coaches, teammates, and mentors who believe in you, their confidence is contagious.
What would you do?
You have a big game tomorrow but your last practice was terrible. How do you rebuild confidence tonight?
